Parkinson's disease is a neurological disorder that causes physical limitations such as muscle stiffness, tremors, and slowed movements. Special attention must be paid to their care so the patient can maintain their daily life independently.
Dressing and Self-Care Conveniences
The weakening of fine motor skills makes buttoning or tying shoes difficult.
- Choose Velcro or zippered clothes instead of buttoned shirts.
- Prefer slip-on shoes without laces and with non-slip soles.
- Use heavy, wide-handled spoon and fork sets to prevent spilling while eating.
Nutrition Against Swallowing Difficulties
In the later stages of the disease, a slowdown in the swallowing reflex is observed. Therefore, there is a risk of food escaping into the throat (aspiration). Foods should be prepared in a pureed, soft, and juicy consistency, and the patient must be sitting in an upright position during meals.
